Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki met on Thursday with U.S. ambassador to Baghdad Ryan Crocker and top military commander David Petraeus on the lasted security developments in Baghdad and other provinces.
“The three officials discussed the developments in the security file in view of hunting down for terrorist organizations in some areas,” Maliki’s office said in a statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The statement added “measures to enhance security and to develop Iraqi forces’ capabilities were discussed in the meeting.”
Earlier, al-Maliki’s office said Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki discussed with U.S. President George W. Bush, via a video conference on Wednesday night, the outcome of the joint military operations by Iraqi and U.S. personnel in Iraq.
“The two agreed that these operations achieved important successes against al-Qaeda in Iraq group and other armed groups in the country,” the statement also said.
“The Iraqi official (also) affirmed that dialogue with the Iraqi Accordance Front would not end, despite its departure from the government, and political blocs would continue efforts within the ongoing political process for the good of the Iraqi people,” it added.
“The two officials highlighted the importance of having dialogue with all neighboring countries for boosting security and stability in Iraq,” the statement further said, noting that al-Maliki stressed the government’s intention to foster relations with all neighboring countries.
“The American president reiterated his support for the current government which he said faces great challenges,” the statement concluded. Iraq Updates
