An Iraqi and U.S. combined force detained on Sunday 17 suspected militants, including a leader of the Qaeda-linked “Islamic State in Iraq” in Muqdadiyah district, a police source said.

“An Iraqi army and U.S. combined force managed, today at dawn, to detain 17 militants, including Raad Rahim Abbas, alias abo Msaab, the Muqdadiyah Emir of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq,” the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The source added “the force attacked the gunmen in al-Wajihiyah area, 10 km east of Muqdadiyah, based on reliable intelligence on the presence of the militants inside a mosque there.”

“The arrested were taken to an Iraqi army headquarters for questioning,” he said.
