Judge Sotomayor Hearings Begin July 13 2009 By: Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel For ACLJ.org

MONDAY, JULY 13, 2009

Dear AMERICA,

As you’re well aware, this is an important week in Washington, D.C., as the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings have begun for Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court of the United States.

In light of this, I urge you to tune in to a few broadcasts in the next couple of days so that you can stay informed on all the latest developments:

  • I will be appearing on Hannity tonight (FOX News channel, 9 p.m.) – please don’t miss it!
  • I’ll also be discussing this critical issue on FOX News and on the radio throughout the day.
  • Tomorrow morning, you can tune in to The 700 Club as one of our senior attorneys, Colby May, addresses this Supreme Court nomination.
  • In addition, I’ll be a guest Tuesday morning on the show America’s Newsroom on FOX News.

The fact is, the Senators must ask the tough questions of Judge Sotomayor regarding her view of the Constitution and her judicial philosophy.

The Senate MUST fulfill its constitutional role in providing advice and consent – and that means asking tough, in-depth questions.

What does Judge Sotomayor believe is the proper role of judges?
How does she view her role as a judge?
These are important questions that deserve straight-forward answers.

A Supreme Court appointment is the lasting legacy of a President.  And, as President Obama moves to reshape the federal judiciary, it’s critical that the American people understand the judicial philosophy and temperament of Judge Sotomayor.

Let’s not forget the scope and intensity of questions posed to former President Bush’s Supreme Court nominees, John Roberts and Samuel Alito.  The questioning of Judge Sotomayor must be direct and focused.  A nominee must answer the questions clearly and without reservation.

The American people deserve nothing less!

We will continue to keep you posted, of course, as these confirmation hearings unfold.

Tune in each day to our radio broadcast, Jay Sekulow Live!, for all the latest.  Thank you for your support as a member of the ACLJ!
